时间回溯到1979年，当时还是下乡知青的许海峰，拿着一支业余气 枪参加了安徽省第四届运动会并赢得了气步枪组冠军，但由于年龄超过国家规定，省射击队并没有录取他。三年后，在和县供销社上班的许海峰第二次参加了安徽省运动会的射击比赛，并再次赢得冠军，但最终还是因为年龄过大没有拿到省队录取通知。更不幸的是许海峰在工作中，为保卫国家财产，致伤双眼，险些失明。不料这时，吴全清教练却带来了省队的借调通知，去还是不去，许海峰陷入了艰难的抉择中。1984年洛杉矶奥运会上，许海峰的状态一直很好，成绩位列第一，在比赛还剩下最后三枪的时候，突然他的眼疾旧伤复发，不得不下场休息。此时的许海峰坐在休息室中百感交集。
